gandhi-ko-phansi-do-hindi-edition
(Gandhi Ko Phansi Do) (Hindi Edition)

The British government in South Africa welcomed Gandhi with shouts of Hang Gandhi!, rotten eggs, and stones when he returned there in 1897. The reason for this outrage and anger was a pamphlet published by Gandhi in Rajkot, The Green Paper, in which he strongly condemned the British governments apartheid policies and raised awareness among the Indian public about the plight of Indians in South Africa. South Africa was Gandhis field of work, where he spent twenty years of his life and first experimented with nonviolence and Satyagraha. Gandhiji said, I was born in India, but I was shaped in South Africa. This play is set against the backdrop of South Africa. The Boer War was being fought between the British government of South Africa and neighboring African countries, during which Gandhi organized an ambulance corps to treat the war-wounded. Gandhis state of mind at that timeon the one hand, he was waging his Satyagraha against the British governments policies, and on the other, he was supporting that same governmentby providing relief to war victims. All these emotions are beautifully presented in this play. The plays author is the renowned Hindi literary figure Giriraj Kishore, who has written numerous novels and plays. In this, his seventh play, the author has attempted a unique experimenthe has given the play two endings. The reader can choose whichever ending suits their preference.
