Baul poetry and music originated in undivided Bengal, blending Buddhist, Vaishnav, Nath, and Sufi traditions. Its most prominent devotional poet was Lalan Shah Fakir (1774-1890 AD). Lalan Shah Fakirs songs embody the memories and traditions of Chandidas, Chaitanya, Kabir, and Raidas, all of whom belonged to the saint-devotee tradition. Lalan Fakir was opposed to caste and religion, leading scholars in Hinduism to consider him a degenerate, and orthodox Muslims to insult him by calling him a heretic and a kafir. Despite this, the common Hindus and Muslims of that time embraced him, and his acceptance in rural Bengali society expanded significantly. Even today, he is considered a crucial figure in the culture and literature of West Bengal and Bangladesh.This book has been selected and edited by Madhav Hada, renowned as an expert on the Bhakti period. Formerly Professor and President of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Madhav Hada has been a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. He currently serves on the General Assembly and Hindi Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Rajpal","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45866633855174,"sku":"DADAX9393267960","price":11.28,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0695\/9389\/1014\/files\/81B_-jStVTL.jpg?v=1779355553","url":"https:\/\/ergodemedia.com\/products\/laalan-shah-fakir-kaljayi-kavi-aur-unka-kavya","provider":"Ergodemedia","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
