They are -- One for all, and all for one! About the Author Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Three Musketeers, was born on July 24, 1802, in Villiers-Cotterets, Aisne, France. His father, a general in the French army, died when he was four years old, making it hard for the family to make ends meet. Dumas started out writing historical plays and musical comedies and, though they were not his best works, his striking imaginative ability, wit and intelligence stood out quite clearly. The period after the revolution of 1830 in France was quite unproductive for Dumas, as the new king did not see eye to eye with him. He was, thus, in exile for a while, during which he wrote a series of light-hearted travel books. It was only after his return to Paris that Dumas began writing novels and The Three Musketeers (1844), The Count of Monte Cristo (1846) and The Vicomte de Bragelonne (1850) were all written during this phase of his career. Along with just being gripping plots in themselves, these works also offer a valuable insiders perspective on the political scenario of France in the 17th century. Despite his success and aristocratic connections, Dumas was frequently in debt as a result of spending lavishly. The large and costly Chateau de Monte Cristo that he built was often filled with strangers and acquaintances who took advantage of his eagerness to indulge. In his later years, mainly out of desperation to pay his creditors, Dumas produced a number of works of poor quality which were commercially not very successful. His son, Alexandre and his daughter, Madame Petel, were his foremost source of hope and joy in his last days and he died in poverty on December 5, 1870.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"OM BOOKS INTERNATIONAL","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45878827352262,"sku":"DADAX9353766842","price":7.33,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0695\/9389\/1014\/files\/51RM8TvVb2L.jpg?v=1779700589","url":"https:\/\/ergodemedia.com\/products\/om-illustrated-classics-collection-of-alexandre-dumas-set-of-2-the-man-in-the-iron-mask-and-three-musketeers","provider":"Ergodemedia","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
