teen-ekant
Teen Ekant

Teen Ekant is a theatrical reading of three stories by Nirmal Verma (A Piece of Sunshine, Dedh Inch Upar, and Weekend), staged by the National School of Drama Repertory Company in 1975. Devendra Raj Ankur, the founder of Kahani Ka Rangmanch, directed this acclaimed production. It is noteworthy that this is not a theatrical adaptation of these stories, but a presentation of the original text, with directorial cues and stage descriptions added to bring out the drama on stage. All three stories are monologues that take shape in memory and unfold as a long dialogue between individuals. In Nirmals words, The only similarity between them was that they were written in a monologue, when a person speaks to himself in moments of solitude. ...It cannot be called a dramatic dialogue in the traditional sense. But when words are spoken to oneself, the self itself becomes the battlefield... The completeness with which this inner conflict was embodied by the accomplished actors of his time is also visible in this text. In his directorial statement, Devendra Raj Ankur calls these stories of characters encounters with themselves in moments of solitude. To underline this, the productions were given the collective name Three Texts in Solitude.

Rajkamal Prakashan Pvt.
