Description

Bhagat Singh Sandhu was born on September 28, 1907. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar on April 13, 1919, had a profound impact on Bhagat Singhs thinking. Leaving his studies at the National College in Lahore, Bhagat Singh founded the Naujawan Bharat Sabha (Youth India Assembly) to fight for Indias independence. The execution of four revolutionaries, including Ramprasad Bismil, and the imprisonment of 16 others in the Kakori incident so deeply upset Bhagat Singh that he joined Pandit Chandrashekhar Azads party, the Hindustan Republican Association, and renamed it the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. The organizations objective was to cultivate young men capable of service, sacrifice, and the ability to endure suffering. Bhagat Singh, along with Rajguru, assassinated British officer J.P. Saunders, the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Lahore, on December 17, 1928. On April 8, 1929, bombs and pamphlets were thrown to awaken the British government. On March 23, 1931, at around 7:33 pm, Bhagat Singh and his two companions, Sukhdev and Rajguru, were hanged. Bhagat Singh remained in prison for nearly two years. During this time, he continued to express his revolutionary ideas through articles. His studies continued while in prison. The articles he wrote during that time and the letters he wrote to his relatives still reflect his thoughts. The brief but unforgettable life of Martyr Bhagat Singh, the immortal son of Mother India, full of sacrifice, courage, bravery, and patriotism, is presented in question-and-answer form.
