Many books have been published about the Emergency. Gujarat played a special role in this struggle. This book is written by someone who lived in Gujarat, not outside Gujarat, in Europe, America, etc., but by living in Gujarat, becoming a soldier in this struggle, experiencing, and witnessing everything that happened. Writing from such a persons pen is more vibrant and inspiring. This book provides a true glimpse into the patriotism, devotion to democracy, bravery, patience, unparalleled enthusiasm, fearlessness, understanding, selfless service, and foresight displayed by many brothers and sisters, young and old, known and unknown, in this crucial fight for ideological freedom, not just in Gujarat. During the Emergency, underground activities were ongoing across the country. This book provides authentic information about the organizations and committees participating in the underground struggle, their systems, and their working methods, which had not yet reached the general public. This book reveals for the first time how a smooth system was established and operated under the watchful eyes of those in power to maintain contact between underground activists during the struggle, and how communication channels functioned. It is hoped that this book will illuminate Gujarats central role during the Emergency, the excesses of the then autocratic government, and the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of the Indian people against them.
