Amir Khusro was a scholar of Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Sanskrit, and Hindi. His original name was Abul Hasan. Khusro was his nickname, which later became so popular that people forgot his real name.Jalaluddin Khilji, pleased with his poetry, gave him the title of Amir, and from then on, he was known as Amir Khusro. Khusro began composing poetry at the age of ten. He thoroughly studied philosophy, theology, history, warfare, grammar, astrology, and music.His book Laila Majnu reveals that he had a daughter and three sons. Khusro was filled with patriotism and was very proud of his motherland, India. At one place, he said, I am the parrot of Hindustan. If you really want to know me, ask in Hindi; I will tell you unique things. Khusro wrote millions of couplets.His works are said to number 99, but only 45 have been discovered so far. Amir Khusro was also a prolific singer and musicologist, contributing to both instrumental and lyrical music.
