Description

When the problems of modern women in the past and present centuries repeatedly seek solutions within the context of tradition and culture, it becomes necessary to delve into recent history, if not distant human history. The twenty-ninth century was the century of the Renaissance, and modernity is a reflection of this Renaissance. Since the birth of the modern woman is also attributed to this same culture, solutions to the problems of modern women in the twenty-first century must be found in this century. This book offers a vision that attempts to reach the root of the questions facing modern women even in the second decade of the twenty-first century, and attempts to explain them through various components. While the first chapter, Bharatendu Era: The Twenty-Nineteenth Century and Its Circumstances, analyzes the interrelationships between the circumstances of the twenty-ninth century and the Hindi Renaissance, the second chapter, Economic Exploitation, the Hindi Renaissance, and Bharatendu Harishchandra, attempts to present the seeds of the Hindi Renaissance and the environment in which it flourished during the reign of Bharatendu. The third chapter, Religion, Fragmented Modernity, and Women, offers a comprehensive overview of religions hostile attitude toward women, not just Hindi or Indian women, but those worldwide. The fourth chapter, Women and Hindi Literature of the Second Half of the Twenty-Nineteenth Century, attempts to address the womens issues embedded within the social issues of thirty-five years. These thirty-five years are, in effect, the years of Bharatendus life. In the same chapter, The Last Decade and a Half of the 21st Century and the Womens Question, the womens issues addressed in the last decade and a half of the 21st century are identified with roots. It can be said that the ground prepared in the book for arguments and analysis that confront the notions, customs, emotions, prejudices, insistence, incompatible marriages, bride-bride sale, female slavery, female illiteracy, female abandonment, untouchability, etc. from the perspective of women during the 19th centurys rule is not only important in its thinking but also rare.
