Bachchan Rachanavali (11 Volumes) Volume 1 There was a period in Hindi poetry when the Hindi-speaking community had considerable faith in the serious side of life, and poetry, relying on the understanding of its readers and listeners, moved forward with dialogue as its goal. There was no division between entertaining poetry and serious poetry; there was no competition among wordsmiths and artists to exploit the tastes and illiteracy of the masses in the name of entertainment, a phenomenon we see in countless forms today, nor was there a tendency in poetry to avoid this and avoid public communication. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a star poet of that poetic era. He not only communicated with his readers and listeners from the stage but also created records of popularity. He fulfilled the responsibilities of poetry and his role as a poet, fulfilling his duty to the people, and also remained connected to the people. This Rachanavali is as comprehensive a presentation of his contributions as possible. In this new edition of Rachanavali, the nine volumes published in 1983 have now grown to eleven. After the publication of Rachanavali, the fourth part of Bachchan jis autobiography came as an independent book in volume ten and some other material including letters has been included in volume eleven. Volume 2: The second volume of the Bachchan collection contains the following works in sequence: Milan Yamini (1950), Pranay Patrika (1955), Dhar ke Idhar-Udhar (1957), Aarti aur Angare (1958), Buddha aur Nachghar (1958), Tribhangima (1961), Four Khemes Chausath Khoonte (1962). Volume 3: This third volume of the Bachchan collection contains the following works in sequence: Do Chattanen (1965), Bahut Din Beete (1967), Voice of Cutting Statues (1968), Forms of Emerging Models (1969), Jaal Samata (1973), Early Works Part 1-2 (composition period: 1928-33; publication period: 1943), Echoes of the Past and Some Verses from the Graveyard (Composition Period: 1932-33), Some Latest Poems (Composition Period: 1973-83). Volume 4: In this fourth volume of Bachchans works, the following poetic works translated by Bachchanji are collected in the following order: Khayyams Madhushala (1935), Peoples Geeta (1958), Sixty-four Russian Poems (1964), Sound of Emerald Island (1965), Nagar Geeta (1966), Language Ours, Feelings Others (1970), some scattered and uncollected translations. Volume 5: In this fifth volume of Bachchans works, four plays of Shakespeare translated by Bachchanji are collected in the following order: Macbeth (1957), Othello (1959), Hamlet (1969), Kinglear (1972). Volume 6 In this sixth volume of the Bachchan Rachanavli, some of Bachchanjis prose works and some of his scattered writings have been presented in the following order: Saumya Sant among Poets (1960), Naye-Purane Jharokha (1962), Tooti-Chhuti Kadhiyaan (1973), prefaces to compilations and collections like Sopan and some uncollected articles. Volume 7 In this seventh volume of the Bachchan Rachanavli, the first two parts of Bachchanjis autobiography are being presented: Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon (1969), Need Ka Nirman Phir (1970). Volume 8 In this eighth volume of the Bachchan Rachanavli, the third part of the autobiography Basere Se Door (1977) and his diary Pravas Ki Diary (1971) are being presented. Volume 9 In this ninth volume of the Bachchan Rachanavli, Bachchanjis various writings are presented in the following order. Contains: talks, interviews, book reviews, stories, poems for children, and letters. Volume 10: This tenth volume of Bachchans Rachanavli includes the final fourth part of Bachchans autobiography, which until now was available independently under the title Dashdwar Se Sopan Tak. The first three parts of the autobiography, Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Need Ka Nirman Phir, and Basere Se Door, have already been compiled in the seventh and eighth volumes of the Rachanavli. Volume 11: This edition of Bachchans Rachanavli concludes with this volume. This volume contains, in addition to some uncollected poems, an interview, a speech, and an introduction, primarily his letters. Bachchan wrote so many letters in his lifetime that, if collected, they would fill twenty to twenty-five thick volumes. He himself has admitted to writing at least 50,000 letters.
