He was dismissed from the Kalakankar-based Hindustan for writing too harshly against the government. This is an inspiring fact of Hindi journalism in colonial India. Guptas lifes truth was the primary reason for the breakdown of the intimate relationship with Hindi Bangvasi. Gupta was always insistent on prioritizing principles. It was this principled insistence that led him to separate himself from the popular newspaper of his time, Hindi Bangvasi. Bharatmitra became popular and accepted in the Hindi world as a symbol of the prosperity of Hindi journalism. Furthermore, Bharatmitra and its editor, Balmukund Gupta, became synonymous. Bharatmitra brought to public attention Guptas reputation as a distinctive Hindi stylist.
