Gandhi was perhaps Razas most inspiring figure. Seeing Gandhi for the first time in Mandla at the tender age of eight had such a profound impact on him that he did not migrate to Pakistan with his siblings and first wife in 1948, instead remaining in his homelandIndia. He spent nearly two-thirds of his life in France, but never renounced his Indian citizenship or accepted French citizenship. In the final phase of his artistic career, he also created a series of paintings inspired by Gandhi. We are committed to presenting important material related to Gandhi through the Raza Book Series.
