India is not merely a geographical formation or a landmass, nor is the understanding of India formed solely through history. In fact, the understanding of India is a process of eternal understanding, intertwined with both the eternal and the continuous. Eternal values emerge from eternity, and continuity brings about their adjustment over time. The understanding of India is nationalism, culture, and religion. The meaning of the term India is the expression of the life-system of an eternal and continuous civilization.The idea of Indianness, the question of India can be understood as a culture of gratitude, and gratitude begins with the recognition, the belief that we are born with certain debts. With our birth on this earth, we incur the debt of society, the land, family, teachers, and acharyas. True liberation will come only when we are free from these debts. And the only way to free ourselves from this debt is to become human. This is neither a system for becoming civilized nor a system for becoming a genius. India is also a religion, and this religion transcends cults of worship. This religion is a repository of human values.This book discusses some principles from the perspective of understanding India and also elaborates on some principles in todays context. An attempt has been made to highlight the role of contemporary India and, for contemporary India, some discussion has been given on what kind of life system and what value system should be adopted by people born in India.
