Buddham Sharanam Gachhami is a novel based on the life of Gautam Buddha. Gautam Buddha was a Shramana whose teachings founded Buddhism. He was born in the home of King Shuddhodhan of Kapilvastu (present-day Nepal). His childhood name was Siddhartha, and he was compassionate from childhood. At the age of 29, Siddhartha renounced his newborn son Rahul, his wife Yashodhara, and the desire for kingship and went to the forest in search of true knowledge. After years of rigorous meditation, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya (Bihar), and transformed from Siddhartha into Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha sent monks to propagate his religion for the welfare of the people, for the welfare of the masses. These monks spread Buddhism from India to countries like China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Burma, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, where Buddhism remains the majority religion even today.Rajendra Mohan Bhatnagar, a recipient of the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademis highest honors, the Meera Award, and the Distinguished Literary Award, is particularly known for his historical novels.
