Description

Chanakyas policies encompass politics, economics, religion, and moral values. He was a true patriot who provided sound advice to rulers. His motherland was paramount to him. He was a skilled strategist, economist, sociologist, and dedicated patriot. His advice and statements were insightful, paving the way for social welfare and national progress. He encompassed all sections of society and presented a blueprint for appropriate ideal conduct and behavior for everyone. Rulers, merchants, employees, women, and religious monksall were within his vision. This book is a humble attempt to compile this vast body of Chanakyas vast knowledge, explaining the meaning of his various verses in simple language with appropriate examples. Acharya Chanakya (approximately 375 BC - 283 BC) was the Chief Minister of Chandragupta Maurya. He is also known by the name Kautilya. He was a professor at Takshashila University. He destroyed the Nanda dynasty and installed Chandragupta Maurya as king. Chanakya is said to have lived in a small hut, away from royal pomp and show. His book, Arthashastra, is a monumental treatise on politics, economics, agriculture, and social policy. Kautilyas Arthashastra is considered a mirror of Mauryan Indian society. Chanakyas name appears in the Vishnu Purana, the Bhagavata Purana, and Sanskrit texts like the Kathasaritsagar. His story is also frequently found in Buddhist texts. Buddhaghosas commentary on the Vinayapitaka and Mahanama Theras commentary on the Mahavamsa are both recounted in Chanakyas account. Chanakyas disciple, Kamandaka, writes in his treatise, Nitisara, that Vishnugupta Chanakya, using his intellect, churned the ocean of economics to extract the nectar of ethics. Scholars have, in turn, compiled numerous ethical treatises, including Vriddha Chanakya, Laghu Chanakya, and Bodhi Chanakya, by adding and subtracting from Chanakyas ethical treatises. His treatise on astrology, titled Vishnugupta Siddhanta, is also available. It is said that he also wrote a treatise on Ayurveda, titled Vaidya Jeevan.
