Description

Like an ocean in a pot, this book presents a collection of the best and most representative poems from the vast works of timeless Hindi poets, along with detailed analysis.Dadu Dayal (1544-1603 AD) is one of the most influential and popular saints of the medieval period, whose words were widely disseminated. His words reflect his religious and philosophical views. According to him, the ultimate goal of human life is to attain God. He presented an ideal way of life for saints and human beings, which includes many principles such as good conduct, good company, a life without ostentation, and a pure diet. Dadus special feature is that, in addition to being a devotee of saints, he is also a poet. His words are spontaneously poetic. Due to his extensive life experience, he possesses a wealth of words, idioms, analogies, and metaphors, and when he has to say something, these words flow from his memory into his speech as needed. Dadus creative world is vast. It is said that he wrote twenty thousand sakhis and padas in his lifetime. Priority is given here to those compositions that combine devotional and philosophical poetry with poetry. The corresponding raga is mentioned before the padas. This book has been selected and edited by Madhav Hada, renowned as an expert on the Bhakti period. Formerly Professor and President of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Madhav Hada has been a fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. Currently, he is a member of the General Assembly and Hindi Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
