Description

Weve completed 60 years of married life. The journey hasnt ended. In the beginning, it was just the two of us for four years. I was a student, he was a professor. For the first two years, we didnt live together. Initially, his college was in West Bengal, and I was in Muzaffarpur. After two years, he began teaching at Muzaffarpurs Ram Dayalu Singh College in December 1960. With the help of Ganesh (a servant), he became the master of our household. Six decades seems very long when spoken and heard. 60 years is ten times longer than six decades. Memory has to be extended. It was very difficult to put memories on paper, but as I progressed, my pen effortlessly captured the moments I had cherished in my mind. When I sat down to read them myself before sending them to the publisher, it felt as if 60 years had passed in a moment. It wasnt that I always liked all his words and behavior. It had become a habit to remain silent. Only after a while would I analyze them with a calm mind. By then, my anger would subside. What a pair God had created. One brimming with self-confidence, the other spending 60 years building that confidence. Even now, she doesnt fully believe in herself. Thoughts and behaviors between husband and wife become mixed up. After a few days, its difficult to distinguish whose thoughts belong to whom. This is marriage. This is the form of Ardhanarishwar. In Indian culture, sixteen rituals have been prescribed from the beginning to the end of human life, which is considered to be a hundred years old. Although marriage is considered the fifteenth ritual among the rituals, the fourteen rituals preceding it are truly rituals of preparation for life. This is because by the time young men and women reach the marriageable age (25 years according to the scriptures), their bodies, minds, and intellects mature. They marry, enter the householder stage, and move on with their worldly lives. Deeply reflecting on the governing principles of marital life, the author found it 100% appropriate to compare marriage to a grain of pulses (mug, gram, pigeon pea, pea, lentil). The husk (cover) on a grain of pulse binds the two inner parts. As long as that husk exists, the two parts remain connected. They possess vitality. They can transform from one to many, and they also generate and nurture lofty ideals. As soon as the husk (marital life) is removed, their fertility is lost. The grain cannot germinate, and husband and wife cannot fulfill their familial and social responsibilities. Elements like love, affection, mutuality, coordination, loyalty, dedication, and trust can nourish the unbreakable bond of life, marital life. A readable work that tells the mantras for a successful married life.
