Description
Dara Shukoh is a unique figure in Indian history. This Mughal prince is even more relevant in our time than he was in his own time. A key reason for this is Daras vision and his actions in accordance with it. He wanted to develop Sangam culture in Indian society. By Sangam culture, he meant the mutual unity of Islamic and Hindu philosophies. To express his ideas, he wrote two books, translated the 52 Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita into Persian, initiated a comparative study of Islamic and Hindu philosophies, and wrote five more books to introduce the general public to Sufi practices and practitioners. In fact, he was a Sufi practitioner himself, a poet of Hindi and Persian, and his poetry also reflects the essence of monotheism. In medieval history, replete with details of power struggles, Dara Shukoh was an exception, for whom study and contemplation, strengthening the roots of Sangam culture in India, were more important than power. He paid the price of his religious and spiritual magnanimity with his life. This book by renowned critic Manager Pandey not only re-emphasizes Dara Shukohs relevance in the present era but also emphasizes the need for the Sangam culture he aspired to. It presents Daras arduous life struggle and extraordinary creative pursuits in a concise manner.
