Description

In the Capital, lie ruins a thousand years old. Facing these ruins is the City View Apartments where Mr. Ahluwalia lives with his daughter and runs a design studio. He is estranged with his wife. His design studio is financially precarious. During these challenging times, he meets a widow in a nightclub who enters his life very quickly and becomes the studio head of his office. The scandal is obvious. Aindri is unsettled with the relationship between her father and the widow until she decides to run away to the ruins. What follows is a strange sequence of events which explore proliferation of myths in Indian society and ways individuals find to come to terms with it. Diary of a Dacoity is a chronicle of a dacoity and the events leading up to it, written in monologues of different characters, mostly conflicting with each other, trying to shed light on the bare facts and motives, under the overarching theme of rage, not only in the Capital and the characters but in the very act of writing down of something as violent as a dacoity in the form of a diary. It has a parrot which talks, a widow with an enigma, a Hindu idol found in an Islamic ruin, dacoits who kill and rape and a black cat which is sold as a black lion in the black markets of Nepal. [About Author] V.R.Chaithanya is a designer by profession. He has graduated from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in 2009. Born and brought up in Hyderabad, he has worked in Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai. Diary of a Dacoity is his first book. You can reach out him at Instagram : @raghucv
