Beginning with Rajendra Babus ancestry, it takes us through his childhood, education, brief lawyers career, Champaran satyagraha with which began his close association with Mahatma Gandhi and his subsequent involvement in Indian politics. A brief account of the successive phases of the National Movement in which he was an active participant carries the story further. The significant role he played in constitution-making in his capacity as the President of the constituent assembly and the guidance he provided to the nation as the first President of the Republic of India, make up the rest of the story, which, finally ends with a description of the brief nine-month period of his post-retirement days spent in his old hermitage Sadaqat ashram in Patna. About the Author Born in Patna, Tara Sinha the fourth daughter of Vidyavati Devi and Mritunjaya Prasad (the elder son of Dr. Rajendra Prasad), was brought up by her grandparents in Delhi where she had her early education. B.A. Hons, from Delhi University and M.A., Ph.D. from Patna University. Served on the staff of Magadh Mahila College (Patna University) for more than three decades. Active participation in seminars and conferences. Publication of papers on subjects related to language and literature. For a number of years, served as the Secretary, Linguistic Circle of Patna-an academic-cum-research body given to the promotion of research work in the field of linguistic studies in Bihar. Writes both in Hindi and English. Four books and several articles published in reputed journals and magazines. Compiled and edited a collection (in 2 volumes) of Dr. Rajendra Prasads letters brought out in 2007. Honoured with Mahakavi Rudra Smriti Puraskar (1998) in recognition of her service to Hindi. At present, actively associated with some Gandhian Institutions in and outside Bihar.
