MS Ramakrishnan (Late) was a pioneer in starting the super-specialty course in pediatric surgery at the University of Madras. He had his training in pediatric surgery at the Montreal Childrens Hospital, Canada and had the honor of being the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr Ramakrishnan was the President of the Association of Surgeons of India and the Association of Pediatric Surgeons of India. He was a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, a Member of the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons and had many national and international presentations and publications to his credit. He was an excellent teacher, dextrous surgeon, a mentor and father figure to generations of pediatric surgeons who were trained by him. He was truly a doyen of pediatric surgery in India.
