Description
It is a common belief that Sardar Patel was opposed to the three Congress stalwartsMahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, and Subhash Chandra Bose. But this is mere propaganda. While there were some differences between them on certain matters, particularly strategic policy, there was no personal difference. However, as this book reveals, Sardar Patel did not oppose Gandhiji on the proposal to give 550 million rupees to Pakistan, even though he understood the cost of doing so. Similarly, he showed appropriate respect for Pandit Nehru as Prime Minister. He was the one who persuaded Pandit Nehru to accept India into the British Commonwealth, although Nehru was not entirely in favor of this. Regarding his relationship with Subhash Chandra Bose, he was opposed to Subhash Chandra Boses second election as President of the Congress in 1939. The way Subhas Chandra Bose helped perform the funeral of Sardar Patels elder brother, Vithalbhai Patel, who had died in Vienna, reveals the mutual love and respect between the two. This important book provides a glimpse into the relationships and thoughts of four great men of their time.
