Description
In the sixth century BC, the quest for happiness and curiosity led to the emergence of an enlightened class in the world, who propounded new ideas that were different from those of their predecessors. Indeed, this was a revolutionary time in terms of knowledge, when great figures like Confucius and Lao-Tze in China, Zoroaster in Persia, Pythagoras in Greece, and Mahavira and Buddha in India ushered in a new era. While their teachings varied, their sole goal was to orient human knowledge in a new direction. One such pioneer was Mahatma Buddha, born in Lumbini (Kapil Vastu). He was married to Yashodhara, whom he called Gopa. His childhood name was Siddhartha. Seeing the painful scenes of life, Siddhartha became disillusioned in his youth and left home in search of peace. After years of asceticism, he attained enlightenment. He traveled the world, teaching humanity the path of non-violence and spreading his teachings. He also sent his son and daughter abroad to preach nonviolence. This collection provides a comprehensive account of the life and philosophy of Gautama Buddha, the pioneer of peace, and will pave the way for readers of all ages.
