Description
Had-Behad is a beautiful mature love novel, and it could even be called a philosophy of love. This story of Sanskar and Indira is not about gaining or losing something in love. Here, love neither denies the body nor its perverse humor. Love takes shape gradually, uniting minds and souls, becoming a social responsibility. Sanskar comes from the Dalit community, and Indira from the upper caste community, but their affection is such that caste does not come in the way. They study together. In school, a boy insults Sanskar on the pretext of his caste, but Indira stands by him. Due to his upbringing, Sanskar does not place importance on the body in love, but Indira has no such taboos; loyalty and devotion are more important to her. Sanskar is shy, and Indira is bold. She is a puzzle to him. Its not as if girls havent entered Sanskars life before. Two girls tried to break their bonds with his help and inspired Sanskar as well, but after his fathers transfer, Sanskars relationship broke down. The third relationship involved a landlords daughter who saw love as merely a physical desire. Sanskar felt insulted by her. This bond prevents him from feeling comfortable even with Indira. One night, while studying together in the room, Indira attempts to connect with Sanskars body. Sanskar becomes uncomfortable. His father witnesses this moment. What happens next? The author has woven this captivating story in a very engaging manner. Reading it is a pleasant and refreshing experience. In fact, the entire novel is a philosophy of male and female liberation through love. Shashi Bhushan Dwivedi
