This book is the second volume of the history of Hindi short stories. The first volume presented the history of Hindi short stories from 1900-1950. This volume presents the history of the period from 1951-1975. The original intention was to write the history of Hindi short stories from 1951-2000 in the second volume. However, due to the sheer volume of material, this intention had to be changed. It was also felt that the year 1975 marked a turning point in Hindi short stories. Roughly speaking, around this year, the story writing of many old and new writers either ceased or lost its luster. At least, an excuse was found for the final stretch of the second volume! Needless to say, the third volume intends to present the history of short stories from 1976-2000. This book discusses or mentions, in more or less detail, approximately 300 short story writers and over 5,000 short stories from Urdu-Hindi, Maithili-Bhojpuri-Rajasthani. An alphabetical list of story writers and stories that are popular, notable, and outstanding for any reason is provided in the index. Our claim that no previous historical text has mentioned so many story writers and stories is unfounded. From the Introduction
