INDIA, CENTRAL ASIA AND THE WORLD POWERS

This book puts into perspective the dynamics of Indias relations with Central Asia as also the role of major powers in the region in the backdrop of globalization, disintegration of the Soviet Union and the emergence of the US as a pre-eminent power. A new constellation of political dynamics has radically altered the balance of power in Central and West Asia, and finds itself once again in the midst of geopolitics between major powers. The region of Central Asia is critical for Indias long-term objectives. Aspiring to be an influential global power, India has to be a player in the unfolding Great Game on an equal footing with other major players likes the US, Russia and China if it has to successfully protect its vital national interests in the region. Indias historical, cultural and civilization ties with Central Asia should be translated into a vibrant and mutually beneficial economic partnership extending not only to trade in goods and services, but also bilateral and multi-lateral investments, scientific collaboration and commercialization of new technologies.
