Description

Following the previously published six volumes of the renowned Gujarati novelist Kanhaiyalal Maniklal Munshis much-discussed and widely read Krishnaavatar novel seriesFansy Ki Dhun, Rukmini Haran, Panch Pandavas, Mahabali Bhima, Satyabhama, and Mahamuni Vyasthis volume, titled Yudhishthira, is the seventh volume, along with the eighth, yet incomplete, volume, Kurukshetra. Munshi intended to conclude the series with this volume. In the Mahabharata, Yudhishthira is a renowned figure of history known as Dharmaraj. He has a deep aversion to unrighteousness, unrest, and bloodshed. His politics is merely a means to the pursuit of religionreligion cannot be used as a means to an end. Despite knowing that the Kauravas want to usurp everything he and his brothers possess, war is unacceptable to him. This is why, despite knowing about Duryodhana and Shakunis conspiracy, he accepts the invitation to the gambling hall and, despite the objections of his brothers and others, continues to lose. The novel poignantly depicts Yudhishthiras inner conflict and restlessness throughout this entire event. Despite exile and incognito, he ultimately has to go to Kurukshetra. And Kurukshetra remains incompleteboth here and in life. It is not known how long this Kurukshetra has been incomplete within and outside us, and for how long it will remain so. But perhaps the seed of human evolution lies in this incompleteness.
