In 1823 He Wrote Han DIslande, Published In 1824, Under The Inuence Of Sir Walter Scott, And During That And The Next Year Contributed To La Muse Frangaise, Which Formed The RallyingPoint Of The First CeNacle, Which Met At The Arsenal And Of Which N Odier Was The Host And Leader. The Nouvelles Odes Appeared In 1824, Also, And Two Years Later Came The Odes Et Ballades. December, 1827, Saw The Publication Of The Drama Crom Well, The Famous PreFace Of Which Was The Manifesto Of The Romanticist School. The Play Contains Lines, And Is Impossible Of Performance. In 1828 Hugo Lost His Father; The Same Year He Brought Out, Under The Name Of His BrotherInLaw, Paul Foucher, The Drama Amy Robsart, Which Proved A Failure. The Final Edition Of Odes Et Bal Lades Came Out In The Same Year, And In 1829 Appeared Les Orientales, And A Prose Work, Le Dernier Jour DUn Con Damn, A Protest Against The Iniction Of The Death Pen Alty. This Is The Time Of The Second CeNacle, To Which Belonged, Among Others, SaintsBeuve, Musset, And Dwas. In June He Wrote Marion Delorme, A Drama Interdicted Before The First Performance, But Produced August 11, 1831, After The Revolution Of 1830 Had Swept Away The Objections To The Play. Hugo Set To Work At Once On Another Play, Hernani, Which Was Performed At The TheatreFrancais On February 25, 1830, And Won The Stage For The Romanticist School. His First Great Novel, Notre Dame De Paris, Projected In 1828 And Written In 1830, Was Published March 17, 1831. In November Of The Same Year Appeared The Volume Of Poems Called Feuilles DAu Tomne. 1832 Saw The Performance Of Le Roi SAmuse. Two Other Dramas Were Given By Him In 1834, Lucrece.
