Description
Folk literature is an important component of folk culture. It is an integral part of it. Since the study and teaching of folk literature in Indian universities, many important texts have been produced on this subject. This book is divided into six sections and 18 chapters. The first chapter describes the origin of the term folk culture, its meaning, its definition, the difference between civilization and culture, the difference between folk literature and folk culture, the synonym for folk lore in Hindi, folk culture, and the vast scope of folk culture. The second chapter presents the history of the study of folk culture. A brief discussion is provided of the scholars who studied folk literature in various European countries, such as Germany, France, England, Sweden, and Finland. The second section is entirely concerned with folk beliefs. Therefore, this section presents a comprehensive analysis of all the things available in the heavens and earth, and the popular beliefs prevalent in society regarding them. The third section describes social institutions, including two chapters: (1) Varna and Ashrama (2) Sanskara (Rituals). Within Varna, the duties, rights, and place of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras in society are outlined. The chapter on Ashrama discusses all four Ashramas. After discussing the benefits and disadvantages of the caste system, the duties of members of a joint family are introduced. The first section presents a description of the fine arts. These arts include music, dance, drama, architecture, painting, and sculpture. Music is the soul of folk songs. Without it, folk songs are lifeless, lifeless, and dull. The second and final sections present a comprehensive discussion of folk literature. By dividing folk literature into five categories, the speciality of each category has been shown.
