M K Gandhi : Sources, Ideas and Actions

I have to give you a depressing answer, much as I dont like to. The glamour of modern technology, money and power is so seductive that no one -1 mean no one -can resist it. And it may be that because of Gandhi we got our freedom before we were ready, before we had developed our character to match the responsibilities. The handfuls of Gandhian who still believe in his philosophy of life in a simple society are mostly cranks. -C. Rajgopalachari there is no difference between the British and their Indian successors. More than 25 years after independence, the poor are worse off than they were before. When Bapu talks about service to the country, better conditions for the poor, he did not mean TVs, radios and cars for the middle classes. He was talking about the basic requirements for physical life - two Square meals a day, clean clothes and shelter. What about the use of Brahmaputra and the freedom struggle when all of us are going to Jai. -J. B.
