Was there feudalism in Indian history? Before considering this question, it would be appropriate to define certain terms. In other words, we should clarify what feudalism is. Unfortunately, even this simple question has been answered differently by historians. If there is no single definition of feudalism that can be uniformly applied to the entire world, there is an objective reason for this that is of particular importance to our discussion: feudalism was not a world system; capitalism became the first world system. This means that feudalism did not have an essence that could be applied to the entire world, as capitalism does. When we discuss capitalism in an abstract, essential form, as a generalized commodity production system in which labor power itself is a commodity, we realize that all human society has fallen under the grip of this system of production at some stage or another in its development. On the other hand, feudalism has never simultaneously dominated the entire world throughout history.
