Description
Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is known as the architect of the Indian Constitution and a vocal advocate for Dalit rights. He experienced discrimination from an early age, which he vividly described in his later writings. In one instance, he writes, While in school, I knew that when children from the general category were thirsty, they could go to the water tap, open it, and quench their thirst. But my situation was different. I could not touch the tap, and it was impossible to quench my thirst unless someone from the general community opened it for me.In 1920, he started a weekly Marathi newspaper, strongly criticizing caste discrimination. He founded two political parties to contest the elections ordered by the British in 1937 and 1946, though these had little success against the well-resourced Congress Party. When India gained independence in 1947, Prime Minister Nehru invited him to become the first Minister of Law and Justice. The Constitution was enacted on January 26, 1950. Dr. Ambedkar appreciated that it had its limitations. This is the heartbreaking story of Babasahebs endless struggle, in which his childhood struggles are eloquently expressed.
