These stories are the product of a gap between my novels; but they are not novelsneither in size nor in form. Although today the point is being raised that a story is not a genre at all. Whatever it is, it is a novel. Even in its smallness, it is a noveland certainly in its vastness. The narrative craft is the same in both. I am not alone on the rough paths my character takes me on. First, my conscience accompanies me, and second, my imagination accompanies me. Conscience draws the lines, and imagination adds color. Its color does not go beyond the lines. Conscience is the control, the grip of imagination. When imagination begins to stray beyond the lines or becomes ethereal, conscience says, Stop, think a little. . . . And despite its tendency to stray, it remains within the realm of reality. Then those pictures are created, some samples of which are in this collection. Author.
