Description
This section, The Muria and Their Ghotul 1, highlights all the aspects of the lives of the Muria tribal people of Bastar that we were previously unaware of. Here, there is the Ghotul, whose source is the Lingo Pen deity. It is the residence of the village children and youth. Every unmarried boy and girl in the tribe is required to become a member. Membership in the Ghotul is not merely a means of entertainment but a social tradition rooted in religious beliefs. This tradition is governed by strict rules. Here, boys are called Chelik and girls are called Mutiyari. The leader of the boys is the Sardar, while the leader of the girls is the Bailosa. While describing the economic, social, and religious aspects of Muria life, the Ghotul is merely a night club; during the day, its members are busy arranging food, farming, hunting, fishing, collecting honey, collecting sago palm sap, and fuel. This book, which unravels the life of the Murias, describes in detail and authentically every aspect of the life of the Muria community, their livelihood, clan organization, childhood, youth, religion and their gods.
