The novel revolves around a group of six call center employees working at the Connections Call Center in Gurgaon, Haryana. It takes place over the course of one night. All of the main characters in the story face some aspect of their lives and want to change. The story takes a dramatic and decisive turn when a phone call from God is received through a literal divine revelation.The book begins with a train journey from Kanpur to Delhi. During the journey, the author meets a beautiful girl. She offers to tell him a story. He suggests that it should become his second book. After much hesitation, the author agrees.The story is about six people working at a call center. Told through the eyes of the protagonist (Shyam), it is a story of almost lost love, thwarted ambition, lack of family affection, the pressures of a patriarchal setting, and a globalized office work environment.Shyam loves Priyanka but has now lost her and is planning a marriage with someone else. Vroom loves Isha. Isha wants to become a model. Radhika is in an unhappy marriage, and the military uncle wants to talk to his grandson. They all hate their cruel boss, Bakshi.The story is said to be based on a true story. The author casts Shyam Mehra, one of the six employees at the call center, as the narrator and protagonist.
