Description
Palamu has been a land of revolutionaries. Raja Medini Rai fought against the Mughals, while the Nilambar and Pitambar brothers defeated the British in the 1857 Revolution. From the Non-Cooperation Movement that began in 1920 to the Quit India Movement of 1942 for national independence, the contributions of the local revolutionaries were no less than those of other revolutionaries in the country. Despite this, their stories remained unwritten. The book Revolutionaries of Palamu details the employment of Ashfaq Ullah Khan, one of the heroes of the Kakori incident, and the visits of great figures like Gandhiji, Rajendra Babu, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Jayaprakash Narayan to present-day Medininagar and former Daltonganj. It also includes the stories of Yaduvansh Sahay and Amiya Kumar Ghosh, members of the Constituent Assembly, and Ganesh Verma, an associate of Chandrashekhar Azad. During the August Revolution, six pairs of brothers were arrested across the country, possibly in Palamu district. These brothers were Yaduvansh Sahay and Umeshwari Charan, Ganesh Prasad Verma and Nandkishore Prasad Verma, Neelkanth Sahay and Rishi Kumar Sahay, Tirath Prakash Bhasin and Ved Prakash Bhasin, Hazari Lal Sah and Narayan Lal Sah, and Lakshmi Prasad and Gaurishankar Guhrishvata. The story of martyr Swami Satyanand, who was hanged in Varanasi, and Ram Prasad Azad, who participated in the Goa Liberation Movement, is also included.
