Pather Panchali (Hindi Edition)

Satyajit Rays world-famous film, Pather Panchali, is based on the novel of the same name by author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. The novel tells the story of Apu and his elder sister, Durga, living in the village of Nischindipur in Bengal. Apu and Durga, unaware of the harsh realities of poverty, spend their lives immersed in the carefree pranks of their childhood. Their father, hoping to earn more, goes to Kashi. Circumstances later shift to Apu, forcing him to shoulder the burden of caring for his family. This novel, Pather Panchali, which traces his childhood to adulthood, was first serialized in a magazine and published as a book in 1929. In 1944, Satyajit Ray was commissioned to create illustrations for the new edition, and he immediately decided he would make a film based on it. Satyajit Rays film, Pather Panchali, received numerous honors both domestically and internationally. Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, a renowned writer of modern Bengali literature, was born on September 12, 1894, in the 24 Parganas region of Bengal. He wrote several novels in his lifetime, of which Pather Panchali and the subsequent work, Aparajito, are the most popular. He was posthumously awarded the Rabindra Puraskar in 1951 for his novel Ichchhamati.
