Description

These poems by Jacinta Kerketta, as is natural, are not poems about the love that exists only between two individuals; they focus on the love that sustains the entire universe. The love that humans have for nature, the love that nature gives to all humanity without expecting any return! These poems also address the pettiness we display by unjustly dividing natures love. As a poet and as a person, Jacinta has closely observed and internalized the splendor of this love; it is because of this love that she consistently incorporates the suffering of the tribal people and the cries of nature into her poetry. Why cant love exist with many? With many people, many children, women, trees, plants, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, and the entire earth? She rightly asks. Indeed, in some poems in this collection, we also find the love that exists between two individuals. But her perspective on this isnt the same as everyone elses. Thats why shes able to write these lines: In love, why does a person want to become one? Why cant they remain two despite their differences? And she summarizes this question by taking it to a larger perspective of the present: Here, in the love of their country, some people want to unite everyone. Those who fail to become one are killed. Love doesnt mean possession, not of someones body, happiness, or dreams. These lines can be called the concentrated theme of this collection of poems, which extends from an individual to the vastness of nature.
