Description

It was in Lucknow, during the Congress session, that I learned of a secret committee whose primary objective was to participate in the revolutionary movement. Hearing about the revolutionary committee there, I began to participate in its work. A friend of mine became a member of the revolutionary committee. Within a short time, I was also made a member of the executive committee. The committee was severely short of funds, and weapons were also needed. When I returned home, I thought of publishing a book and using the profits to purchase weapons. Where would I get the money to publish the book? While thinking, I came up with an idea. I told my mother that I wanted to do some work, which would be very profitable. If she could provide me with money, it would be great. She gave me 200 rupees. A book titled How America Gained Independence had already been written. Arrangements were made for its publication. Needing a little more money, I borrowed another 200 rupees from my mother. After the book was sold, I repaid her money. About 200 rupees remained. Books still remained to be sold. At the same time, a pamphlet titled Message to the Countrymen was printed, as Pandit Gendalalji and Brahmachariji had been arrested in Gwalior. Now, all the students pledged to work with greater enthusiasm. The pamphlets were pasted and distributed in several districts. Both the pamphlets and the book How America Got Independence were confiscated by the United Provinces government. - Ram Prasad Bismil
