Description

Khoob Ladi Mardaani Woh To Jhansiwali Rani Thi... The mere utterance of these lines brings to mind the name of their author, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan. Born on August 16, 1904, in Nihalpur village, Allahabad, the heroic poetess, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan began writing poetry from childhood. Her poems made her popular throughout her school.

Mahadevi Verma was her childhood friend. The two remained together for a long time. Although Subhadras studies were interrupted after the ninth grade, this absence did not detract from the depth of her literary output. She was a Congress worker and a beloved daughter of Bapuji. The 1922 Flag Satyagraha in Jabalpur was the first Satyagraha in the country, in which Subhadra was the first female Satyagrahi.

Subhadra was a bold, rebellious, and brave woman from childhood. Her natural expression can be seen in her works. He composed about 88 poems and 46 stories, in which the customs of illiteracy, superstition, caste system etc. have been attacked. Jhansi Ki Rani is his evergreen work, which is still included in the school curriculum and children quickly connect themselves with it. Bikhre Moti, Unmadini and Sidh-Sade Chitra are his three popular story collections.

  • He died in a road accident on February 15, 1948, at the young age of 15, while returning from Nagpur to Jabalpur by car.
