Ret by Bhagwandas Morwal Ret is the story of a rebellious society whose traditions we cannot easily trust. This novel reflects the faith, religious beliefs, society, and culture of the Kanjar tribe. Kamala Bua, Sushila, Maya, Rukmani, Vandana, and Poonam, who practice prostitution, live in the same house with Santo and Anita Bhabhi, the faithful wives who are formally called Bhabhis after marriage. Kamala Bua embodies matriarchal dominance in the novel, and Bhabhi, despite being married, is a second-class member brought in from outside. Morwals novel, with its remarkable storytelling, also initiates a discourse on gender equality in Hindi. The novel Ret, which has been at the center of controversy since its publication, provides an accurate and engaging account of the folk beliefs, customs, lifestyle, and traditions of the Kanjar tribe (Kanachar tribe). Transcending the sexual purity entrenched between criminality and supposedly civilized society, this novel still maintains its unique image.
