These surveys are the basis of this book. Defining the scope of social policies is not easy, but they certainly include school education, government health facilities, Anganwadis, mid-day meals in schools, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA), the public distribution system, old-age, widow and disability pensions, and maternity benefits. This book assesses these social policies designed to support us from birth to death. The main points of discussion include the implementation of these schemes, the shortcomings, achievements, and the differences in their form across states. The aim of this book is to familiarize readers with Indias social policies, recognize their framework, and understand the logic behind them. They should be clear about the moral and economic principles that drive such interventions, not just in India but around the world, by governments. And why should we view these social policies as peoples rights, not as favors or freebies from the mother-father government. To shape the book Rewadi or Right and reach its conclusions, we consulted with people and organizations from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. During the research, the surveyor not only observed the struggles of rural people, but also spoke with a new generation of engineering and management students, and learned from friends and family from the urban middle class about their perspectives on these social policies. It can be said that this book attempts to spark a dialogue between these diverse groups and our own perspectives on social policies.
