Description

For the first time, ghazals by a Pakistani and an Indian poet have been included together in one book. The speciality of the two Pakistani and Indian poets included in this book is that they address completely different and untouched issues in their ghazals. The poetry of Pakistani poet Azhar Farag is characterized by its fresh and untouched themes. In his ghazals, he sometimes dreams, sometimes lives those dreams, and sometimes emerges from his dreams to face reality, taking up a lamp and fighting the wind. He keeps a constant eye on both his inner and outer self, and instead of speaking self-righteously, he writes in a manner that is in tune with the times. Yet, he never offends the spirit of the ghazal and manages to convey his message with grace. The poetry of Indian poet Ahmed Kamal Parwazi seems to grapple with lifes difficulties, offering sharp sarcasm and cautioning everyone. Parwazi breaks conventions and weaves into his ghazals topics that perhaps for the first time have become a part of Urdu ghazals, such as the Rabi and Kharif harvests, childrens school fees, the intricacies of politics, village life... and deeply contemplates all these in ghazals. Until now, the ghazals of these two poets have been in Urdu; now, for the first time, their ghazals are in Devanagari.
