According to Maharishi Valmiki, Shri Bharat Vijay is the final event of the earthly life of the most virtuous person, Shri Ram Raghavendra. In the narrative, the Kekaya country was plagued by numerous troubles caused by the tyrannical Gandharvas. A prayer was made to King Shri Ram of Ayodhya for relief. To free the Kekaya country from the Gandharva terror, a massive army marched from Ayodhya under the command of Shri Bharat. His two sons, Taksha and Pushkala, accompanied him in this military campaign. A fierce battle broke out with the Gandharvas across the Indus River, a continuous battle of the peoples dissolution for seven days. However, seeing no victory in sight, Shri Bharat used the devastating Sevkaastra of the Lord of Death and killed three crore Gandharvas. After five years, Shri Bharat returned to Ayodhya. Why did it take five years? An attempt to answer this question based on various scriptures is the story of Shri Bharat Vijay. This work in the form of Shri Bharat Vijay is the presentation of this little known episode of Shri Ram Katha.
