Shrilal Shukla is as great a satirist as he is a powerful storyteller. His stories have a unique style, often interwoven with a subtle satire. This reveals many more dimensions and implications beyond what the story itself conveys, including the contradictions of life, the inner turmoil of humanity, and the ineffable complexities of the human mind. Shrilal Shukla observed everything from village to city, the ego of the metropolitan upper class to the deep suffering of the lower and working classes, and he kept a keen eye on the inner truths of all.
