Description
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the revolutionary leader of the freedom struggle, was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa. From childhood, Subhash was a brilliant scholar. Upon returning from England, Subhash wanted to work with the renowned Calcutta freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. At that time, Gandhiji had launched the Non-Cooperation Movement against the British. Subhash Babu joined him in that movement and soon became an important young leader of the country. When the Simon Commission visited India in 1928, Subhash Babu led the movement in Calcutta. Subhash Babu disagreed with Gandhiji and the Congresss methods. Despite Gandhijis opposition, he was elected President of the Congress, but resigned when he lacked the support of the executive. While under house arrest, he deceived the British government and reached Japan and founded the Azad Hind Fauj. He coined the slogan, Give me blood, and I will give you freedom. He waged an armed struggle for Indias independence. Subhas Chandra Boses patriotism is unparalleled. His death remains a mystery. It is said that his plane crashed on August 23, 1945. National leader Subhas Chandra Bose remains a source of indomitable inspiration even today.
