Tai is considered a milestone in Hindi short stories. Its author, Vishwambhar Nath Sharma Kaushik, is counted among the creators of modern Hindi short stories, along with Premchand, Jaishankar Prasad, and Guleri. Chronologically, these writers emerged within a year or two of each other, each forging their own distinct identity. While the names of Premchand and Jaishankar Prasad remain popular in Hindi literature and their works are readily available, Kaushiks works have become somewhat obscured from readers. This collection of his stories fills this void. Most of Vishwambhar Nath Sharma Kaushiks stories depict the social life of North India. Kaushiks specialty was creating memorable characters, and he brought his characters to life through his stories in a way that readers would remember them for years.
