She was born sometime in the third decade of the twelfth century, around 1130, in Udutadi, a village in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka, South India, to Shiva-devotee parents. Tradition says she was a peerless beauty. Humans are not made to endure beauty. Beauty has always aroused violence in them. Furthermore, the beauty of a woman, her radiance, her radiance, her devotion to a devotees heart! The beautiful Mahadevi was bound to be penetrated someday. But no one else penetrated her. She undertook this task herself.
