Homers *The Iliad* is one of the greatest epics of Western literature. It tells the story of the darkest episode of the Trojan War, when Achilles, the greatest warrior-champion of the Greeks and his leader Agamemnon, get into a terrible conflict.

*The Iliad* deals with the intervention of Gods in human affairs and the devastation incurred through war. Interwoven in the tragic sequence of events are the moving descriptions of the ebb and flow of the battle, the besieged city of Troy, the feud between the Gods and the fate of the mortals.
