Description

We are what we are, and where we are in life is because of those who came before us. Within these pages lies more than just a chronicle of names and dates; its a tapestry woven from the threads of generations past. It paints a vivid portrait of shared heritage, proving that our roots are not just where we come from, but also a compass guiding us to where we belong. In The Road Less Travelled, Rajeev Uberoi traces his roots back to the areas around Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujarat, and Peshawar, all in modern-day Pakistan, covering the lives of his father, Balkrishan Uberois ancestors - unto five generations, and of his progeny-unto two generations. Educated landowners and traders, this particular line of the Uberoi family comes from the small village of Garjakh, a few miles from Gujranwala, which used to be the capital of the Khalsa Raj during the initial days of its existence. They also worked in various capacities in the administration, both, during the Khalsa Raj and under the British. Realising that our stories are not just our own but are woven into the fabric of our familys legacy, leaving an indelible mark on generations to come, Rajeev has worked on this record of his familys history in the hope that it would become a living book, a breathing chronicle that will grow and expand with future generations. Each chapter unfolds to reveal the triumphs and tribulations that have shaped the lives of a generation of the Uberois, travelling through their joy and sorrow, resilience and redemption, making this memoir a testament to the power of kinship and the resilience of the human spirit.
