Nirmal jis stories give us a glimpse of an unseen moment in life, expanding it to its fullest extent. The thin layer of pain that surrounds an ordinary person suddenly becomes meaningful on a larger scale; this art of illuminating ordinary people, living unseen lives everywhere, in their very ordinariness, is called the magic of Nirmal Vermas language and vision. In Thigaliyan, Nirmal jis hitherto uncollected stories are being published together for the first time. Most of these stories were written in the sixties and published in various magazines. What is special about these stories is their highly tangible portrayal of the characters states of mind and their social geography. These stories neither declare their intentions aloud nor allow the thread of sorrow to slacken, which the authors aim is to capturein all its tension.
